Data Management
Market Reflex uses a fast, modern, local database that delivers a rapid response to calculation,
monitoring and reporting requests. Before results can be obtained, this
database must be loaded with historical stock data. Historical data,
including international exchanges, can be obtained from free and low cost
sources using Market Reflex. These are described in the Market Reflex help
along with preconfigured formats and commands to obtain the data. Market
Reflex can be configured to accept stock data and list data in almost any
format.
LOADING HISTORY
You must first determine which stocks you want to track. For example, you
may choose the stocks in the S&P500, S&P400 and S&P600. Then, download and update the lists of the stocks to be loaded. Some
commonly used lists have been preconfigured as samples and can be updated
automatically when you begin using the Market Reflex program. Web locations,
from which other lists, such as complete exchanges, can be downloaded, are
provided.
Once your list is in Market Reflex, you simply select the list, specify the
source of the history data, enter the number of years of history to load and
click the Start button. Your history will begin to load. If
interrupted, it will continue loading when you click Start again. History can be
added at any time using lists or individual stocks.
DAILY UPDATES
Each day, at some time after the markets close, daily updates data will become
available from your data supplier. To download and process this data,
select the data source, the exchanges to download, and whether monitoring is to be
run when the update is complete, and then click the Start button. International
exchanges that close at varying times will require a separate download for each
exchange.
Any number of daily updates can be scheduled to run unattended, with optional
monitoring, after any download.
STOCK CHANGES
Stock splits are the most common change. Market Reflex will optionally
detect splits, confirm them and adjust stock history values during any daily or
historical update process. Splits can be adjusted for a specific stock as
well.
A
less common change is a ticker symbol change. This can be accomplished by
entering the new exchange and symbol for the currently displayed stock. If
history is missing it can be automatically downloaded and updated.
DATA VERIFICATION
Verification can be run periodically to ensure the integrity of the stock data
and perform some data maintenance functions.
The verification process has the following options:
•
check for missed daily updates - optionally automatically download and update the missing
dates
•
check for missing dates or values - optionally automatically reload affected history data
•
adjust data for splits
•
remove stocks with no strategy record
•
remove strategy records with no stock data
•
remove stocks with no activity for a specified period.
Verification results are displayed in a table and can be viewed as a report or
can be printed.
LISTS
You
can download stock lists from external sources or create your own named lists
grouping stocks in as many ways as required. When a list updates an
existing list, a change report can be viewed or printed which contains additions
to and deletions from the list or index. Preconfigured download and update
data sources and commands allow for easy updating for common lists.
GICS
Industry classification of stocks under the Global Industry Classification
Standard is displayed in a convenient tree format for the stocks comprising the
S&P 500, S&P 400 and S&P 600 indexes and the S&P TSX 60 large cap, S&P TSX 60
mid cap and S&P TSX small cap indexes. This data is included in
downloads of the S&P lists.
